Blood Orange Poppyseed Bread

We’re in love with this irresistibly gorgeous bread recipe! It’s the perfect balance of sweet and wholesome, and pretty pink icing made with blood orange juice takes your bread to the next level.

25 min active; 50 min active; serves 6—8

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 blood oranges
  • 8 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cups Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 2 Tbsp sliced almonds
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp poppy seeds
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • loaf pan

 

 

Instructions:

1. PREHEAT OVEN & PREP ORANGES

  • Preheat oven to 375°F
  • Grease loaf pan & set aside
  • Slice 1 orange in half along its equator, then cut 2-3 thin round slices & set slices aside
  • Zest and juice remaining oranges
  • In microwave or on stovetop, melt butter

 

2. MAKE BATTER

  • In a bowl, whisk together melted butter, yogurt, vanilla extract, almond extract, sliced almonds, powdered sugar, 2-3 Tbsp orange juice, maple syrup, eggs & half of orange zest
  • In a separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, poppy seeds & sugar
  • Once combined, add to wet mixture and  whisk until just combined
  • Pour batter into loaf pan then sprinkle with sliced almonds & top with orange slices
  • Bake 35-45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, then remove from oven and allow to cool completely (cook times vary based on size of loaf pan used)

 

3. MAKE GLAZE

  • In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar & remaining orange juice & zest, then add 1 tsp water at time as needed to reach desired consistency

 

4. GARNISH & GATHER

  • Once cooled, spoon glaze over bread, slice & serve. Enjoy!
