French Toast Casserole

The simple yet delicious breakfast recipe that’s perfect for when company’s in town. 

15 min active; 50 min total; serves 4—6

 

 

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 slices bacon
  • half loaf of Challah bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups half & half
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 2 Tbsp maple sugar
  • 4 oz shredded cheese
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup

 

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. PREHEAT OVEN & COOK BACON

  • Preheat oven to 400°F
  • Heat a large sauté pan over med, cook bacon 5—8 min per side, until crisp

2. PREP FRENCH TOAST

  • Roughly chop bread
  • In a casserole dish, whisk together eggs, half & half, brown sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg & vanilla until well combined
  • Add bread and toss until liquid is mostly absorbed, then set aside

3. PREP CRUMBLE

  • Melt butter
  • Mix pecans, flour, oats & maple sugar in a bowl, then add melted butter and stir to combine

4. ASSEMBLE CASSEROLE

  • Chop bacon
  • Add bacon to bread in casserole dish, then add cheese and toss to combine
  • Top with crumble mixture
  • Bake 30—40 min, until golden brown on top

5. GARNISH & GATHER

  • Scoop French toast casserole onto plate then garnish with a drizzle of maple syrup and enjoy!
