Guest Blog: A Foodie’s Take on the Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival

Hi G&G community! For those of you who don’t know me I am Sam - founder of the local ATL food based Instagram, EatingThroughAtlanta. I am super excited to be partnering with G&G to share my take on some cool things happening here in Atlanta.

This past Sunday, I joined fellow tomato lovers in attendance at the ninth annual Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival (AKTF) at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park. The festival benefitted Georgia Organics, a non-profit that helps farmers and consumers connect.

As a foodie, these festivals are my favorite. Seeing chefs put their own spin on a simple ingredient is so inspiring!

Some of the dishes that stood out to me were:

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream + Little Tart Bake Shop: Green tomato brambleberry crisp tart from paired with peach lassi buttermilk frozen yogurt

Bar Margot: Watermelon, heirloom tomato and cucumber salad with chorizo

Gunshow: Boozy freeze pops – I chose the yellow tomato flavor

King + Duke: Grilled oyster with spicy tomato conserva and tomato breadcrumbs

JCT Kitchen: Tomato, spicy summer melon and scallops, which was served in a beautiful shell

Don’t these dishes sound good?! I’ve included pictures of each below.

The AKTF party didn’t stop for me when I left the festival. The next day, I received the Superica G&G meal kit where I had the opportunity to make their cheese enchiladas (my favorite thing on their menu) topped with beef chili sausage and cherry tomato salad. So good!

Did you attend AKTF? If so, what was your favorite dish that you tried? I would love to hear!
