Meet Artichoke Dinner Club
Tuesday, August 3, 2021
We are excited to introduce a new addition to our local market offerings–Artichoke Dinner Club! Artichoke was founded earlier this year by Anthony Vipond, one of the faces behind the ever-popular Whiskey Bird in Morningside.
Anthony created Artichoke out of his family's need for a convenient, high-quality alternative to takeout, and now we're bringing that convenience and quality to you, just in time for the back-to-school rush. Order Artichoke's ready-to-heat meats & sides, salads, family-style dinners, and even kids' meals (yes!) to be delivered with your next G&G order.
Tell us about Artichoke Dinner Club! How did you get started?
Four years ago I had the amazing opportunity to open Whiskey Bird restaurant and have been extremely fortunate to have it succeed and grow. During this time my own family also grew. As my life changed, I found myself in need of a delicious, healthy, affordable & convenient dinner option for my family during the week.
Don’t get me wrong: we love going out for dinner and over the past year we have ordered our fair share of takeout. But, we also have those nights where we are so busy we need something we can just throw in the oven or microwave - especially now as we return to the office and kids return to school.
I created Artichoke out of our family's need for a convenient, high quality alternative to meal subscriptions and restaurant takeout. I wanted to focus on being local, not having food shipped across the country; offering restaurant quality food; and being more family friendly by serving dishes family style and in larger sizes, in addition to individual portions.
How did you choose the name Artichoke Dinner Club?
Artichokes are one of our favorite vegetables and one that can be the star of any meal or a subtle compliment to a dish. This is how we see Artichoke Dinner Club, we can provide your meals in their entirety or be a complement to meals or dishes you cook throughout the week with our sides and sauces. We call ourselves a dinner club because one of our goals is to create a sense of community among our customers (and you can join without a subscription!).
Where do you get your passion for food? What got you into the food world?
From a young age I always loved food. My grandfather was a farmer and I spent a lot of time as a child in his vegetable garden learning about food. Then when I was 14 I got my first job as a dishwasher in a neighborhood restaurant and from there I was hooked.
What’s your favorite weeknight dinner?
When I am cooking at home, I keep it simple. My current go-to is seared salmon with pesto and a cucumber and tomato salad. But we also order Artichoke meals for about 4 meals a week and the Chicken & Artichokes makes it in our order almost every week. And right now I can't get enough of our Coconut Curry Chickpeas.
