A Family Tradition: Granny's Orange Glazed Chicken

The holidays are a time for making memories, and many of my most treasured ones were made at my grandparents’ house in Southwest Georgia. My granny was infamous in at least three counties for her pound cakes, and she also knew how to put out one heck of a holiday spread. When Christmas came around each year, her four children, their spouses and 5+ grandchildren would make their way to my Granny and Papa’s house. She would spend days in the kitchen whipping up every Southern side dish imaginable with all the fixings. Her favorite side to make was asparagus casserole. Her brown rice with consommé & mushrooms is one dish I have yet to successfully recreate (rice has never been my forte). My uncle’s festive favorite, squash soufflé, with pimentos and green chiles, was ever present. However, the pièce de résistance was definitely her Orange Glazed Chicken. We all looked forward to it, and this dish transcended main course status and came to symbolize the love and family that brought us together year after year. I’ve been so honored to share her recipe with my G&G family, and, ultimately, to share her legacy of love with our G&G home cooks. I sincerely hope that this recipe will bring your family as much joy as it’s brought mine! Happy Holidays!
