Top 5 Experiences for Your Little Foodies this Summer
Wednesday, June 15, 2016
School’s out for the summer! Guess what that means? The kids want entertainment all day, every day! We’ve rounded up a list of some of our favorite foodie experiences for kids during the summertime in hopes of making your warm and sunny days a little bit easier.
1. White Oak Pastures
Although a little further afield, this is the place to go if you want to give your kids a whole weekend of foodie fun! At White Oak Pastures you can spend the day learning where food comes from or taking a covered wagon tour to see all of the animals, and then finish the day off with supper. White Oak Pastures prepares dinners with meats and organic vegetables produced on the land, giving you a truly authentic farm to table dining experience. Afterwards, stay the night with your kids in one of White Oak's cozy cabins nestled in the woods. For more information, visit their website.
2. Farmers Markets
Peachtree Road, Grant Park, Serenbe, Truly Living Well... and the list goes on! Around Atlanta, you'll find a farmers market every day of the week. Grab your kids and take them along as you shop for this week's fresh tomatoes and peaches, because although it may be hot, they'll surely be kept happy by the sweet treats and refreshing drinks at each tent. Show them where healthy eating begins--with the farmers and artisans! You can find a market close to you here.
3. Cook's Warehouse Cooking Classes
If you want an experience that will truly help transform your child into a foodie, Cook’s Warehouse’s cooking classes are a great place to look. Your child can go alone, or the two of you can spend some time together learning everything from knife skills to how to cook edible food experiments! Check the schedule here, and claim your spot soon, because the seats go fast!
4. Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe
So what do you do with your kids when it's raining during the summer? Take them to Sweet Hut, of course! Take a break with Bubble Tea and an array of Asian baked goods, giving your kids a treat and expanding their taste buds at the same time.
5. Pick Your Own
Nothing’s quite as fun as picking your own fruits and veggies! If your family is into blueberries, then Roberts Family Blueberry Farm is no doubt the place for you. Located in Clermont, GA, the Roberts Family offers blueberries, tomatoes, okra, and more usually throughout June—and it’s all organically and naturally grown! And of course, don’t forget to take some homemade ice cream home with you, which will be the perfect pairing for the inevitable blueberry pie that will follow this trip. Email the farm at robert.terry1962@gmail.com if you want to check ahead for fruit and veggie availability.
