Drink Local: Wine Pairings for the Week of 7/10
Tuesday, July 5, 2022
The perfect glass of wine never fails to make a meal feel special. Bethany, a Certified Sommelier at Brookhaven Wines, has picked out a pairing for each meal kit on our menu this week. You can pick up the bottles from Brookhaven Wines (you can pick up your G&G orders there on Mondays, too!), or you can find something similar at your neighborhood wine shop. Cheers!
Peach BBQ Pulled Pork
Pair with Barahonda Barrica ($18.99) - a blend of 75% Monastrell, 25% Syrah from Yecla, Spain. Rich and smooth with juicy flavors of blueberries, strawberry jam, and a slightly smokey influence. Jammy with low tannins, making this a perfect pairing for roasted or grilled meats with any type of sweet finishing sauce.
Chimichurri Steak
Pair with Domaine Gallety 'Vallée du Rhône' ($29.99) - a 50/50 blend of Syrah and Grenache from the Rhône Valley, France. Flavors of dark berries, savory herbs, and a hint of cured meat. This fruit-forward red blend with moderate tannins and acid will work nicely with the extreme flavors of Chimichurri and not be overpowered by the garlic and herbs. Medium bodied and not too bold, making sure to let the dish shine!
Fish & Tomato Vinaigrette
Pair with Gobelsburg Grüner Veltliner ($21.99) - 100% Grüner Veltliner from Kamptal, Austria. This zesty white has flavors of fleshy Bartlett pear and fresh picked lemon that pair perfectly with any light flaky fish or white meat accompanied by hearty green vegetables like broccoli or asparagus.
Smoked Salt Chicken
Pair with Domaine du Salvard Chevery Rouge ($18.99) - a blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Côt (aka Malbec) from Loire Valle, France. This wine is packed with flavors of red and sour cherries and a pleasant touch of earthiness. The perfect accompaniment to light white meat dishes.
Buttermilk-Herb Salmon
Pair with Cora Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo ($13.99) - this refreshing rosé is made from 100% Montepulciano in Abruzzo, Italy. Extremely versatile with food, great with all types of fish and veggies. Flavors of fresh cherry juice and citrus zest. One of the best value rosés!
Crispy Togarashi Chicken
Pair with Caruso e Minini 'Naturalmente' Catarratto ($22.99) - 100% Catarratto from Sicily, Italy. With flavors of white peach and tropical fruits, this fun and fruity white will be the perfect pairing for sweet, summery chicken or fish dish.
Za'atar Roasted Chicken
Pair with Gunderloch 'Jean-Baptiste' Kabinett Riesling ($21.99) - a beautiful dry style Riesling from Rheinhessen, Germany. The spicy Mediterranean flavor of Za'atar begs for this wine. Flavors of juicy nectarine, green apple, and lemon zest. While dry, this Riesling has the perfect amount of sweetness to balance the spice and make you crave another bite.
