Wine Pairings for the Week of 8/7
Wednesday, August 3, 2022
Wine pairings for this week's meal kits are brought to you by Bethany Taylor, a sommelier at Brookhaven Wines. Brookhaven Wines is one of our partner pick up locations–stop in to pick up your G&G order from their shop on Mondays and grab a bottle of wine to go with your meal kits while you're there! Cheers!
Ginger Pork Noodle Bowl
Pair with L’Ecole No 41 Chenin Blanc | Yakima Valley, WA ($20.99) - Any dish finished in a sticky, sweet sauce like miso is always a slam dunk pairing with Chenin Blanc, especially when you add ginger and turmeric. The Chenin grape naturally mirrors these aromatic flavors without over-powering the dish. Aromas of fresh lemon peel, orchard fruit, and delicate white flowers lead to flavors of quince, green and yellow apples, and bartlett pear.
Lemon-Garlic Pork Chops
Pair with Tornatore Etna Rosso | Sicily, Italy ($26.99) - You could easily go with a white or a light red with this dish, it has fresh summer veggies with citrus flavoring attached to a savory pork chop. Erring on the side of a light red – this wine is extremely versatile with food! Flavors of bright red berries, morello cherry and black cherry and dark stone minerality, with enough tannin structure to stand up to the pork.
Street Corn & Shrimp Tacos
Pair with Gaintza Txakolina | Getariako Txakolina, Spain ($22.99) - This naturally effervescent white wine from the Basque region of northern Spain is specifically made to be consumed with light seafood dishes. That summer-y spritz and super fresh flavors of green apple, lemon peel, and stones covered in salty ocean spray will be epic with these tacos.
Salmon & Feta Butter
Pair with Vignerons de Buxy Bourgogne | Burgundy, France ($19.99) - The perfect balance of tart red fruits and earthiness, the wine made from 100% Pinot Noir is the ideal pairing for Salmon.
Oven-Fried Chicken
Pair with Jansz Sparkling Rosé | Tasmania ($24.99) - If you have never tried fried chicken with bubbles, be prepare to have your mind blown. Best. Pairing. Ever. This tasty treat from Tazmania is made in the traditional Champagne method, resulting in a dry sparkling wine with a soft and creamy mid-palate. Aromas of rose water and freshly picked berries that linger with elegant flavors of berry compote and brioche.
Chicken Biryani
Pair with Pewsey Vale Dry Riesling | Eden Valley, Australia ($17.99) - This bone-dry Riesling has all the structure you need to match up with a white meat dish, balanced by elegant aromas of citrus and white flowers that continue on the palate with lemon-lime freshness – perfection with the cucumber-yogurt sauce.
