We Love Freedom Farmers Market!

So, I may sound a bit like a broken record, but I just can’t believe how much I have come to love going to the Farmers Market. I still can recall that first time as a customer, double and triple checking that I had my reusable bags, unsure what to buy and too nervous to ask questions. My inner monologue rambled "Is it a turnip? A rutabaga? A radish? Just put down the vegetable and slowly back away, no one will notice." Fast forward to earlier this month at the opening of Freedom Farmer’s Market and here I was on the other side of the booth, literally.

I always knew I’d like becoming a regular at a farmers market – I mean who doesn’t love picking out veggies and dusting off a little soil because yes… its just that fresh. But what I didn’t always understand was the community I would find at the farmers markets. Sure, I’d seen hints of it here and there, and heard ‘talk’ of such things, but didn’t really believe it’d be for me.

Well, predictably on this one, I was mistaken. As I set up my booth on Saturday mornings, I’m surrounded by friends. In fact, I struggle to get it ready in time because of all the catching up I need to do! But my favorite thing is getting to know our amazing home chefs who come to visit us and getting to meet our new market regulars! I love love love hearing in person how the pork chops turned out last week, or getting excited together about an upcoming dinner party! Please come and see me - I want to meet you and hear from you! Heck, I even love it (ahem, Cindy) when you bring me a stack of reusable bags that you’ve had hiding out in your trunk for the past month. Plus what a great excuse to get to meet some of the other folks you see in your G&G meals each week like Charlotte at Riverview Farms, who is responsible for those succulent pork chops, Mike at Storico Fresco who’s handmade pastas make us giddy, or Nick at Doux South who writes some of our favorite recipes.

Make your Saturday morning a little friendlier and come and chat with the farmers & vendors that are here at market. And if you like chai tea – DO NOT MISS this delicious chai from 3 Porch Farm. Don’t miss a beet: Freedom Farmer’s Market at the Carter Center, Saturdays from 9am–1pm.
