Traveling with G&G
Sunday, September 14, 2014
Last week, I packed up my toddler and my husband, Kyle, and we all drove down to Sarasota, Florida for an impromtu beach vacation. By the time I packed up all the beach toys, sunscreen and tiny little swimsuits, there wasn't much room left. I always find it difficult to find food on vacation. I enjoy eating out but I love nothing more than a leisurely dinner at home, espeically when the ocean is right there in the backyard! I am dedicated to eating locally, sustainably and organic so on past trips, Kyle and I have loaded a giant cooler into the car filled with farm fresh goodies. We always just threw a TON of food in there, knowing we could *probably* make a meal out of it. It's usually just a hodge podge of foods and we end up having to run to the store anyway. Now that we have a giant toddler in that car with all his giant toys, every inch counts. I needed exact portions and not a tomato more! With my G&G meals, I was able to fit 5 days worth of meals into a cooler no bigger than my diaper bag and I knew I had the ingredients to make 5 excellent dinners!
Because Emily and I test every recipe that our chefs write, we rarely actually get to cook from a meal kit. Let me tell ya folks... I now understand why we get emails from customers all the time telling us how much they love the convenience!
With toddler in tow, a 7 hour drive took us upwards of 12 hours. Needless to say we were tuckered out when we arrived. But anyone who know me knows I'm never too tuckered out for a good meal. We aren't fast food people and to be honest, a home cooked meal is always my choice over take out. Cooking the amazing recipes from our chefs has certainly spoiled me. So after we got the baby to bed I was ready to cook!
I randomly selected a G&G bag from the fridge: Fig & Arugula Pizza with Brebis Chese. Perfect! I had stashed a little olive oil, salt & pepper in the bag on my way out the door and voila! I had everything I needed to make a homecooked meal! Dinner was on the table in under 20 minutes and we were happy campers! No greasy take out and no planning needed! With just the basic kitchen appliances provided by the condo, I whipped up delicous meal after delicious meal! The best part? The corny kitchen gear in beach rental condos! Meet Jacque, my kitchen helper for the week!
