Community Q BBQ

If you're into bbq, you know Community Q is one of the best spots around. The Decatur staple has been cooking 'cue for 15 years now, always serving the most satisfying meal. We asked David Roberts, one of the masterminds behind Community Q BBQ, a few questions about how he got started with his friends Stuart and Jim.

Tell us how Community Q came to be!

Stuart and I worked together at several restaurants here in Atlanta including Alons and Seegers before he joined me again opening a BBQ restaurant in Marietta (Sam and Daves). After many years of success with Sam and Daves I came back to the Decatur area and opened Community Q BBQ in 2009 with Stuart and Jim Laber.

How did you first get into the food world?

I have always enjoyed working in restaurants and started when I was 15.

If you had to choose, what is your #1 favorite dish on the Community Q menu?

Our menu items are kinda like children, it's hard to pick a favorite. I would have to lean towards Ribs and Chicken Salad. Stuart is a ½ chicken fanatic and is often seen walking by eating a cup of Black-eyed Peas.

Can you tell us a  few of your favorite spots to eat or hang out around town?

When not at work we have several favorite restaurants we frequent. Las Brassas, Shorty's Pizza, Deer and Dove, Super Pan, Melton's App and tap. All are independent and have great food and service.

What’s your number one piece of advice for home cooks?

My piece of advice to a home cook, learn how to break down a whole chicken and use every part of it. Nothing beats a homemade chicken stock. Know your farmer and support them!

Community Q's Chicken Salad Sliders and Blueberry Bread Pudding kits are on our menu right now–you won't want to miss them. Start your order here!
